i bought a remote on e bay for my jeep charokee 2001 sport, i need to knowhow to program it?

There is a web site called thejeep.com and on that site you can find step by step directions to program replacement Jeep remotes and Keyless Entry Transmitters.  There are six steps and that’s about it.  Here is the link: http://www.thejeep.com/pilandprogram.html.  Just in case that process does not work with your 1996 Jeep, there is another site that speaks about the process and how it works on a 1996 Jeep. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_program_your_keyless_remote_for_a_1996_Jeep_Gran.  They mention on the site that this information is contained in your manual.  Just in case you did not get a manual when you bought the car, you can find one on the auction house Ebay web site, probably on the Ebay Motors section of the site.

 Unlock and open the driver’s door and turn the car key to the ‘on’ position. Then, lock all the doors using the button on the main door. After the doors are locked, aim the transmitter to the small bulb situated on the ceiling of the car. Press the ‘lock’ switch and keep it pressed till the doors get unlocked.
