ive got a 93 manual 2.3 n the first time i fryed my trany when i would engage 1st it would staul it. i am clueles on an autotrans but have it checked oir pop it off and at least check the bellhousing but this is only is u have already inspected the ignition system espicaly the distrubitor mine was acting funny i got a complete borg warner assembly for $60 dirt cheap. also my tempo sumtimes suddenly turns off and wont start or aftrer turnign it oif it wont start and i have to disconnect the input on the fuel filter on bottom turn the key and blow sum gas out the line, then go back, dran the fuel filter and with the top end stil connected blow through the bottom blowing everything into the fuel rail, reconect put it in the on position til it presurizes, begin to start it and ususaly after 3 or 4 revolutions she starts up! also i would inspect the integerity of the piliot bearing and the end of the crankshaft that goes into ur trany "rember bro if u can start it, put it in netural and rev it up to the red line witout any problems then stick it in drive and it stauls its defintly ur tranny. also is ur car shuting off or is it suddenly stauling and stoping?

id check  the fuel filter first if thats not it try putting your electrcal system under a large load (headlights, radio anything thats electrical , turn it on) if that kills it its ur charging system or battery
