Confused Christian
|
I do believe in God, Jesus and the Bible. These are the cronerstones of MY belief. I am trying to get a grip on denominations and factions withing Christianity. I am trying to understand how and why current church(es) are so far away from the teachings of the bible/God/Jesus. I am looking to understand why these things are like this, were allowed to get like this and also and maybe most importantly, am I alone in questioning the church as an institution? Questoning it's lithurgy, it's teachings, it's sense of self importance, it's injustice?
I am not a fundamentalist, I just feel uncomfortable attending servces either at Catholic/protestant services. One thing is preached but another is lived during the service.
Can somebody help me in my quest for information, knowledge and undestanding?
My faith is strong, I settle with God several times a day my problems, I give thanks for all the blessings I receive and ask for forgiveness for my sins. I just need to know.

Hello.I can help you, because I was/am in the same dilemma.I just would request you bare with me in my answers. As I have spoken with all kinds on these forums, chat rooms etc and they find my approach too much to bear.So they become bitter, resentful etc. It's as the Christ stated, his 'truth is like a 2-edged sword'
, it cuts into the deepest depths of the soul.
My findings are Bible based, meaning they're something no person really wants to hear, as, it reveals that they are still 'walkng in the flesh', and have not completely surrendered to the 'spirit'. People have been conditioned by the lies of the Church powers, who seek to keep believers 'dumb', as religion is a powerful way for the few to control the masses. So forget all you've been taught for a moment, and come learn from me.FREE. For as you learn, I learn. And as you learn, I become inspired. You'll be surprised how much I know. So come chat with me at http://answers.myfastforum.org or MSN chat: mostwtd@hotmail.com

I became a Christian and followed the norm.I flowed with whatever was taught me, because I thought ,'well, those guys are of GOD',and they claimed this continually. Often stating who was 'I to question them, the Authority of GOD himself? 'You're a 'babe' in Christ, you don't know anything.Until we (the Church leaders, powers) say you're mature.Until then don't even think about questioning our authority.'I am continually told that the mystery of God is too much for me to understand.True to a point. But if the spirit speaks through you, doesn't he reveal the mysteries of God so you'll understand? At least a little?I was passionate, driven so I decided I'd pray and ask the Holy Spirit to remove the veil from my eyes, and show me the truth.Well,I believe he did/has.Because upon meeting the Jehovah Witnesses, whom I don't have a regular affiliation, they merely were door knocking, they helped me hunger even more for Gods truth. So I dug deeper. And found many religious factions still cling to the pagan customs of Xmas belief as the time Jesus was born, and many other traditions, while cussing pagan practices. The sabbath is ignored, the trinity fallacy is believed and contradicted as often as it's mentioned. So I actually began to read the Bible from the beginning and found many contradicitions between the Old Testament & the New.I have found an interesting fact, that I don't think any Christian will know, or accept, even though it is fact!

Question for you Christians out there...God decrees in the Old testament "I am one God.There IS no other.I have no equal.Who can say they are my equal?" Moses leaves Egypt, with the people to worship the one true God.After Jesus is long gone to Heaven, and all his disciples are dead, it is declared God is the Father,God is the Son,God is the HS. The trinity is created by Tertullian,(The Nicene creed),and declared as gospel by the Church and Church fathers. So, it's decreed he has an equal. If so, then Judaeism's offshoot,Christianity, has transitioned from Monotheistic to Polytheistic.Has it not? Modern day church preachers state the same idealology as gospel, yet quote: John 3:26: "And God sent his only begotten Son..." Rather contradictory don't you think? And his name shall be Immanuel. But he's called Jesus? Yet his real name was Yeshua Ben Yosef?Someoneone's got the story wrong somewhere.Explain it to me,if you can.Should be interesting.

Don't worry about it. It is ultimatly about relationship and not religion. Go to a good Bible based church that is alive and they will teach you and God will answer your questions as you grow in Him.

" I am trying to understand how and why current church(es) are so far away from the teachings of the bible/God/Jesus."
Some Churches have decided it is more important to make there members happy than to please God
"I am looking to understand why these things are like this, were allowed to get like this "

The Church is strong, but there are many churches that do not preach the entire Bible. And of the Churches that preach the Bible from front to back should be a good Church
My Church teaches the entire King James Version of the Bible and there are many days someone gets there toes stepped on

Harbour Lake Baptist Most Churches I have been to are great, but I also have been to a few I would not like to go back to.

It's a good thing that those 3 are the cornerstones of your belief. What you need to do is pray that God opens your ears and eyes to the Truth. One famous thing that Jesus said in the Bible was, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. Nobody can come to the Father, except through me." Many people stand with you on that first question you had. I'm not a fundamentalist either, and I have NEVER been to a Catholic church service, as my father brought us up in a Pentecostal church. Now I go to a different local church with my older sister. I used to question these things as well, but when I asked my youth pastor, he told me to have a quiet time with God every day, even if it's just 5 or 10 minutes. I started with 20 minutes and now I soak in the Word for almost 3 hours a day. I hope this has given you an answer. | | Poor Taste?

Hi… This response is from one who was raised Catholic,
rejected the faith and was on agnostic for 20 years and then has step by step
rebuilt faith one question at a time over 22 years. While I attend a Methodist
Church with my wife (who was raised
Methodist) I do not consider myself a religionist by any means. It’s not an animosity thing, I don’t hate the church, and I think for some
people the church is very helpful. I
just think they are stuck in a limited box of beliefs which they created
starting in the fourth century. The
church’s fundamental problem now is that they have created a limited box which
to describe an infinite being and his relationship with his children and then
have declared that box infallible and unquestionable. They are stuck and so far it appears they
will always be stuck.
You question why God allowed the teachings of Jesus to be so
distorted. I believe one of the most
important realizations in spiritual growth is the concept of free will. Free will is a gift – it is part of the
package of being made in the image and likeness of God. So humans, including church leaders are
allowed to do pretty much anything they want.
The only caveat is that we must experience the consequences of our
actions.
You are looking for knowledge and understanding beyond the
limited “box” of the orthodox church with the associated hypocrisy and
impractical teachings – teachings which don’t help you find the next step on
the path of your journey.
The best, and I mean the best resource which I have found so
far in my 22 year quest are the books by Kim Michaels and the
website:askrealjesus.com
God Bless You,
Tom
