on your very first needle, place it between the first and second needle. You might want to take side-cutting pliers and make a cut all the way through so it is like a split ring. That way, you can pull it off and re-position it as necessary. Otherwise, you slide it across the needle to the other needle when you get to it by knitting, and keep knitting after that. When you get back to theneedle with that on it, then you are on your first needle again. Reason for cutting a slot in it to make it a split ring is in case it gets tandled deep in the project with yarn going through it which doesd happen, u can easilypull it off, and put it back on in the proper position.
