Model Not Quite Skinny Enough for New York I don't know if you caught this story when I first put it on the site.... Amid the uproar over skinny models Ms. Gomez, who is 5′11″ and, at around 120 pounds, wears a size zero or size 2, was surprised when her agency’s show booker told her she needed to lose some weight. At a presentation earlier in the week, one designer criticized her because she couldn’t fit into a size zero pair of pants. “She pointed to me and said ‘That one is on the heavy side,’” Ms. Gomez recalled. click here to read the rest and for more photos.

This is really a sad comment on our times, isn’t it? Anorexia has been a rampant problem in that
industry for years. They used to have
the problem but kept it a secret in the racing industry. Jockeys had the pressure to be very thin,
long before the fashion industry took on this practice of applying pressure for
a certain weight level and a particular “look”, at the expense of the human
being who was being targeted. Some
countries are trying to do something about this epidemic in our culture to be
reed thin, at any cost. If these “models”
are to be emulated by the next generation, shouldn’t they have a responsibility
to project a healthy attitude; or is “dying of starvation” the considered
norm, today? Perhaps beside each
glossy page, on current fashion magazines, they should put a small snap shot of
some person from a third world country, who is,in fact, starving. Maybe a clear message would be sent to all,
that thin is not pretty; and that instead of celebrating the skeletal frame in
our countries, with such an abundance of food, we should be providing those
with no choice, something to eat, and a way to make a living. An act of generosity and kindness is indeed
the prettiest picture of all.
