Actually, I believe that talking turning EVP is acceptable. Goofing off is not acceptable, but you can get great EVPs by asking questions during recording.  I have never gotten the impression that The TAPS team is sloppy, but I do not like the music that they play over every scene.  I would like to be able to hear what is going on without all of the suspensful music playing.  If an investigation is performed correctly, there should be no less than two people in an area. This is an opportune time for questioning spirits and each other. Ghosts will speak no matter if you are quiet and listening or speaking to one another. I think that if you go about your business you are more likely to catch something, simply because I believe that ghosts are attention seeking and do not like to be ignored. If you are speaking to one another, you may get a ghost who wants to talk over you. That is my opinion anyway. 

I supose that makes sense. However, they were also goofing around and that also turned me off from watching it further. I haven't watched a lot of episodes but I don't see them experimenting with tools like tone generators or electrostatic generators. Such tools might help form manifestations.
