what is the origin of the koran
|
The KORAN is the holy book of ISLAM. The origin of the word “Koran”
is not specifically known. Experts guess
that it means either to gather or tie together, or to recite. Around
the time of Muhammad, 615 -630, the book was said to have been written about
the stories Muhammad told after talking with the Angel Gabriel who was sent by
God with revelations for Muhammad.
Later, after his death, the new entries into the Koran were written
about those who followed Muhammad and what he taught them. Later entries made in the Koran were stories
about memories by the people who lived in that time, about the talks that Muhammad
had with God. Many of these references
were written by the Muslim people who had heard them in their younger years and
wanted them to be remembered. As they
grew old and died their families wanted
an exact meaning of all the words in the Koran. The language it was written in had no
punctuation, and so scholars began work that goes on to this day, trying to
interpret the exact meaning of all the holy words in this book. Some scholars say that the book has been misread
and mistranslated. Here is a link that
tells more about the work to find the true meaning of this book: http://www.corkscrew-balloon.com/02/03/1bkk/04b.html.
