In Medieval times food was more then just something you did
to live, it was a source of entertainment.
Many banquets were held by the nobility, probably as a sign of wealth
and position in society. There were
usually at least three courses of foods, mainly made up of meats such as pork
or beef, mutton, venison, poultry and fish.
The second course was made up of cheeses, nuts, fruits ,and vegetables
like cabbage, garlic and onions. The last course was ale, cider and wine. The
rich like to have cakes and other baked goods. The poor people had to live on
dark breads, porridge (cereal), fish, pork, rabbit and cheese curd, along with
