I think getting guns off the streets periods is a good thing.Control needs to be over the criminals though not the person who hunts or skeet shoots.  It is the criminals that need guns taken away not the average citizen.

I live in California, and we have incredibly strict laws on handgun sales, ownership, and usage.  It is my understanding that the laws placed on handguns in this state have done very little to lower handgun-related violence.  It's pretty simple to see why, actually, when you realize what you have to go through to purchase a handgun in CA and to obtain a Concealed Carry Permit.  See,  the age-old adage is "guns don't kill people, people kill people" and that's true.  When a CA resident sees what they must go through to purchase a handgun, all that happens is the resident is encouraged to illegally purchase one to prevent themselves from being labeled as a criminal.  If an individual felt like committing a handgun-related crime, do you really think they would go to the gun store, get their Handgun Safety Certificate, get fingerprinted, have a background check performed, purchase a handgun, register it, and then wait ten days to go commit a crime??? NO.  Criminals do what they will always do- BUY GUNS FROM OTHER CRIMINALS.  If they DO purchase a handgun legally, they're just going to file off the serial number anyways.  Honest, good people who don't commit crimes of violence shouldn't have to go through too many hoops imposed by "gun control" laws- all that does is drive up the price of a handgun to the honest consumer, and a criminal can still get a stolen one for $100 on the street!

I live in a small town with VERY little crime (less than 15,000 pop.) but I had a friend who woke up one morning to a burglar in their bathroom looking for drugs- he brandished a large hunting knife, and my friend brandished a S&W MP 9mm.  Needless to say, that handgun probably saved her life, and anyone who fights for more gun control will rue the day when their family is killed by a criminal with a $100 stolen handgun, and they couldn't defend themselves because they voted for a bill that smashed the second amendment in their state, taking the rights and protection from the honest taxpayers and giving it to the criminals.

This is very elementary.  Everyone has knives in their kitchen.  They can kill a person.  That doesn't mean we get rid of them.

Therefore, if we have guns in our house they won't jump up and kill a person by themself.  We need to PUNISH people not rights when they commit crimes.

Getting any type of gun off the streets is definetely a good idea . Guns should definetely banned for civilian population . Why do people need guns ? may be some would argue for safety but then what is civilised  elected government doing  if it cant provide the basis security .

The statistics show that not having guns in our homes holds us prisoner to the Criminal, not the other way around. Whats going to stop that rapist, burglar or drugged out nutjob from coming into your home and take what he wants?? No guns, does not equal No Criminals

hard to say, americas streets are pretty rough in a lot of places.  just the idea that a lot of people carry guns keeps a lot of situations in check.  that being said, ive lived on some pretty rough streets and ive never felt the need to carry a gun.
