If you read about Colbie on my space, you find out that her dad worked with Fleetwood Mac to produce two albums, when she was growing up.  This music along with R and B sounds of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, were her first influences.  Then about two years ago, her dad told her that a good voice is fine, but a person also needs to write songs to be taken seriously.   She picked up a guitar and thought about what she would write.  Recent influences from John Mayer and Lauren Hill, songs that were upbeat and fun, stuck with her.   She wrote several songs and put them on MySpace.  They did nothing.  Then ,she wrote” Bubbly” and people loved it.  In no time she had 10 million plays.  Now she has signed with Universal Republic and put out the album “Coco”.  She said that “Bubbly” is a feel good song with upbeat tempo and a little Marley reggae influence.  It isn’t easy to classify music any more, so this is about the best answer, you’ll get.
