There are classes that you can take where you actually pour
the porcelain into molds to make the face, body, arms and legs. Then you gently sand the entire surface of
the doll, attach all parts and they bake it in a kiln. When everything is dry, you paint and put on a
finishing glaze. If this sounds a little
too complicated, there are many sites that sell kits to make these dolls. http://www.dollhaven.net/catalog.
Doll haven has the kits which contain a soft body, the green ware face arms and
legs, and acrylic paints to make the dolls face your own personal creation. This green ware can be baked in the oven to
harden. You don’t have to have a
kiln. Doll haven has classes, and if
they aren’t located near you; they should be able to tell you where classes
will be available in your area. If not,
go to your browser’s search box, type in the key words, porcelain doll making
classes (my town), whatever it is, and you will get the links you need to get
the information.
