What are some devistating tsunamis of the Phillipines?
|
In May of 1960, the Philippines had a terrible tsunami. A big killer wave hit Chile, Hawaii, Japan
and then the Philippines and it cause a huge loss of life, and great destruction
to land, the shoreline and the entire infrastructure of the area. Then in
August of 1976, the southern part of the Philippines had an 8.0 earthquake. It
caused another tsunami and over 10,000 people were killed by it. Then in 2004, the earthquake underwater in the
Indian Ocean caused the biggest and deadliest tsunami that there had ever
been, and it hit many large land masses in that area, killed hundreds of
thousands of people, and ruined the tourist business that many countries count
on for economic stability. All of these
tsunamis happened with little or no warning for the people who live in that
region.
