I think one of the best gifts to a new mom is something made from the heart and with someone's own two hands. Here is a pattern for booties.
No. 10 Needle. Make 2.
Cast on 30 stitches.
K 7 rows.
K7, (k2tog) 8 times, K7.
Knit a row.
K7, k2tog, K4, k2tog, K7 (20 stitches).
K 3 rows.
Change to No. 6 needle.
K 3 rows. K2 (YO, k2tog) 4 times, K1, (YO, k2tog) 4 times, K1.
Knit 3 rows.
Bind off loosely with no. 10 needle.
Sew back and bottom with weaving stitch.
Finishing:
Run ribbon or cording through beading row top of booties, and bottom
of hat. Ties ribbon through eyelets at the top opening of the coat. Ties
should be no longer than 20cm (8 inches)
