Why are they so rare? In Romania, at least...

The Russian Blue breed of naturally occurring cats were fairly
rare and were bred mostly in the Scandinavian countries and in England. After World War II, this breed almost became
extinct, and Australian breeders crossed the Russian Blue with a domestic white
cat to create the Russian White and Black cat. Many countries do not recognize
this type of cat as being true Russian, since it is cross bred. Even the famous cat clubs, did not give this
breed much attention.. Therefore, perhaps
some people in Rumania would rather have a cat from distinct blood lines rather
then hybrids like this one. These cats
are extremely shy and not good with numbers of people. They keep to themselves and some bond with
their owner. The females are more
difficult to make a connection with, then the males. They are very intelligent, but extremely
independent.
