A Beatitude is a declaration of blessedness made by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.  There were 8 of them and they were to let mankind know that those who suffered most would find peace in heaven.   Jesus said that blessed were the meek, the poor, those who mourn, the merciful, the hungry, the pure in heart, peacemakers and those who have suffered persecution because they believe in Jesus.  He said that each one would receive in heaven, what they had been without on earth.  It is so beautiful and so comforting to think that what we suffer here, and what we do for others here on earth, will be a way to reach heaven, and be with the higher power forever.
