So few people, whether they are teens, or in their early 20’s
or 30’s, find enough work in that profession if they have no dependents, or
even no relationships. It seems as if
you have to devote yourself to promoting yourself, in that world. You have to constantly improve, learn,
audition, pray, audition and so on, and maybe you might find a moment of fame. However, for women, mid thirties to age 42, and you are too old to get much
work. Look at Meg Ryan, for
instance. She is still so beautiful,
talented and funny, and she hasn’t had a good movie role since When Harry Met
Sally. She is skilled, available and a
known star, but do we see her?? So many
of the people who try out for stardom, are multi-talents, and yet maybe, one in
ten thousand or more, ever makes a living at that craft. On American Idol, they can all sing, and yet
they are supposed to be a package; good looking, personable, and have some kind
of attachment to an audience of strangers.
If you have enough money to live on while you train, or try out for a
role; if you can get an agent that you can trust; if there is some one to help
care for your child or children while you audition; if you believe in your
talent with all of your heart; you could try it. Set a deadline for yourself and stick to
it.
