Is there any truth to reports that John McCain crashed 5 fighter jets while in training in the USAF?

John McCain did set a record at the Naval Academy when he
crashed five planes during his training.
Then he served his country honorably in the hell of Viet Nam and was a
prisoner of war for almost seven years.
During that time he was tortured and lied to and verbally abused. He was also starved and beaten,
repeatedly. When, at one point he would
have been released but his men would have to stay imprisoned, he declined to
leave without them and was placed in a small cage for a long period of time. When he and his men were finally released, he
had to re-adjust to a world that blamed the soldiers for the war. It took him years to acclimate himself to
normal living and he probably has flash-backs about what he suffered, to this
day. He went back into public service
and has tried to stop the unethical practices that take place on Capital Hill,
ever since. I think he paid us back for
whatever it was that those planes cost and actually I think we owe him some
respect.
