Card playing was invented by the Chinese around 900 A.D.,
but Poker came to American from France. The French invented a card game in which you
bet on the value of your hand of cards and bluff if you have very few good
cards. The French suggest that they brought
the game to American, when many of them came to settle on the Mississippi and
in New Orleans. The game really caught
on with Americans who loved the challenge of bluffing and risking money on five
cards plus whatever is drawn from the deck of 52 cards. Today, there are more kinds of poker then any
other card game. There is a World
Series of Poker that brings together the best players and is held every
year. It continues for fourteen days,
until a final winner is named. The
biggest attraction of this card game is that the players use psychology and cunning,
along with their own body language and facial expressions to influence the
behavior of the other card holders at
the table until only one person is the only one who is in the chips.
