In many history books that reference the Masonic Lodge
history, in the beginnings of the formation of this group, you can read the
name Juan Tejano Seguin; and the name is followed by the word “patriot ,“ and
member of Holland Lodge No.1, of
Houston, Texas. In 1835 when the lodges
were first being established in Texas, only a small percent of the population
had joined. The five point star that was
chosen to be part of the Masonic Emblem was borrowed from the Texas Lone
Star. The five points were chosen to
represent the five points of fellowship.
Of that small membership in Texas, most of them were well known hero's of
battles fought for freedom. Davey Crockett,
Jim Bowie, Jose Navarro, and Juan Seguin were among them, and did all that they
could to establish the masons. For the
next six years, lodges continued to be formed and by 1845, about 26 were well
established. Today, Texas has over
100,000 members. In my reading, I did
not see a lot of detail about the Masonic Rites. This link to a PDF file is
supposed to contain information about establishing the Masons and Texas
Statehood. It also discusses the
influence that the Masons had on entire country, and it mentions Juan Seguin. http://www.dallasscottishrite.org/newsletter/files/July%2006%20sr%20news.pdf
