should corporal punishment be banned?
|
Corporal punishment has been banned in America for everyone
but children. There are still about 22
states that allow corporal punishment of some kind in disciplining kids in
schools. This practice takes place in
public and private schools. Some experts
feel that this kind of punishment reinforces violence as an acceptable form of
problem solving in the minds of impressionable kids who either witness or are
the recipient of the paddling or other punishment. Later in life, experts say, the child who
has had or seen this kind of problem solving, will repeat the violence and negativity
of this act, throughout his or her life.
I don’t think that a quick fix of spanking a child for poor behavior,
and having this act adversely affect him or her throughout there life, is a
reasonable solution. Society is
unfortunately, violent enough, without encouraging it by exposing our precious children
to it, during their formative years.
