Midi-Minuit the first magazine devoted to horror film,
published an article on March 20, 2008 called “I SAW WHAT I SAW WHEN I SAW
IT: The Legacy of Abbott & Costello
Meet Frankenstein” by Frank Dietz. Also, they had many other articles and
summaries of so many other Frankenstein’s
that have been made throughout movie history. These articles are interesting and there
certainly has been about every kind of movie, and now a musical, made about
this big boy, but what I liked was Dietz’s art work. His depiction of Frankenstein is the likeness
that I imagine when I think about this poor unfortunate being. I always rooted for him, and felt that he was
the product of another person’s obsession.
For me, it has always been an intriguing subject; the mad scientist
steals a brain of a brilliant man..etc.
However, Mel Brook’s Frankenstein was my favorite of all time. Adding the element of humor, where only
sadness, cruelty and madness had prevailed; for me, made the subject matter and
consequences this anti-hero faces, tolerable.
