A celebrity is a person who commands a high degree of
attention from the public and the media.
It can be a sports figure, a movie star, a musician, or a
politician. Al Gore, was Vice President
of the United States, but he became a celebrity when he took on the cause of
Global Warming, and made a movie that people the world over, viewed with great
shock about the state of the planet.
This is called “mass-celebrity”, when people around the world are
familiar with and have an interest in you. A famous definition of celebrity was
once written in a book by Daniel Boorstin called “The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America. In this book, he wrote that a celebrity is “a
person who is known for his well-known-ness”.
