I would advertise my co-operative town house where I
live. We used to have waiting lists to
get in a unit here because it was a wonderful place to live for moderate income
families. A small down payment would qualify you for life in an
interactive, happy, safe and fun filled community with a huge swimming pool,
tennis courts, 24 hour security, maintenance staff, no lawn mowing and monthly
carrying charges of between $200 and $300 dollars a month. It is well maintained, English Tudor in
architecture, and offers seven different floor plans. The reason I would now advertise it, is that
after 30 years, the amount to qualify you for membership, has risen
substantially. It now costs between
$22,000 and $40,000 down and this sum represents the amount that people earned
monthly as a gratuity for living here.
Therefore, when my family moved in 30 years ago, they put down $1,200
and their option in the co-op today is worth about $27,000. It is better then renting, and right now,
better then owning too.
