G. K Chesterton was many things. He was a Catholic first and foremost. He was a scholar and writer, a common sense
thinker, and in many ways a teacher for all men. He believed that all men were created as
equals even if, through the process of evolution, they did not remain equal to
each other. He had a tremendous love of
and interest in everything. He was able
to lead people to the faith he loved, by making it understandable, and worthy
of their consideration. Chesterton
believed in tradition, and embraced what is old, and what has stood the test of
time. He believed in the family unit as
being the most necessary and important focus of our lives. Often, he was quoted as saying the people are
too focused on what is outside of the home, and that their careers, political
ambitions and entertainment were not as important as saving the souls of their
children. Lastly, one of his most famous
quotes speaks volumes about the man, “It isn’t that they can’t see the
solution. It is that they can’t see the
problem.” His humor was one of his most
effective tools in leading people to a better life, and if possible, directly
to his beloved Catholic Church.
