We have for the first time an african-american with a good chance to be elected president. Heads of government in a conservative administration are african american. African americans occupy positions of high-status throughout traditional american society, both professionally and socially. How does the above statement draw attention to conflicts betweenethnicity and race that complicate the idea of identity?

If by ethnicity, the word means that in our society an
ancestral group, from which a person is descended, dictates which particular
group in the social structure a person would identify with; and therefore, if
this person were from an African American ancestral group, they would strive to
hold a position of high status in American society. However, if this is the first time a person
of a particular race would have a good chance to be president in this country’s
history; it would appear that there was a conflict between that candidates
ethnicity and the race he identifies with, IF, this person was to believe that
there are social inequities that have held back his classification of people (race)
from attaining the most coveted job in our country.
