My wife and 7 month old daughter are currenlty living in Bergen County, NJ. As many of you know the real estate market has been out of control all across the country, but is 10x worse in the area we currently live. There is no more space in our county to build new homes which has caused the price of existing homes to sky rocket. The real estate market, along with the high property taxes, high car insurance and the general high cost of living in NJ has caused my family and I to look for a new place to live.
I have heard a lot of good things about NC. Since we currently live in a well developed suburb of NYC, and we are looking for suggestions on similar places to live around the Raleigh - RTC area. I know Raleigh is nothing compared to NYC in terms of size and what it can offer, but we are looking for a nice suburb (no subdivision) that has a well developed downtown, older and newer homes, and sidewalks. I have only passed through NC on trips to and from FL. My wife and I intend to take a trip down later this summer. My prelimary searches have peeked my interest in such towns as Cary (of course I am a Yankee) Apex, Holly Springs, Garner, Clayton and Wake Forest. Can anyone provide feedback on these towns? If you are familiar with Northern NJ living please suggest other towns/neighborhoods around Raleigh-RTC.
Thank You in advance

Hi,
My husband and I just got married and we are relocating to the Raleigh area. We are currently living in Westchester County NY (about 30 minutes north of the city). We are relocating to NC for the exact same reasons you and your wife are. There is no room to build anymore houses in the area we live in. The prices of houses are outrageous. We are leaving to visit Raleigh on Tuesday morning to visit my mother in law who recently relocated from Long Island. It just so happened my Husband was offered a job already so it looks like we will be moving within the next month.
So far looking at houses, Garner has been my favorite as far as buying a house. Next week we will be looking for rentals in the Cary/Morrisville area. I think the best thing is to rent first. The great thing about down there, most places let you rent month to month or 3, 6, 12 month leases.

Good Luck you you and your family.
