In our community, the numbers of heinous crimes have risen
dramatically in recent years. One even
more startling fact is that these crimes are being committed by younger people. For instance, there is a trial taking place
here, at this moment, where a 16 year old boy, planned with two friends, to
kill and mutilate another teen, in their grandfather’s garage. Not only did they do it, they also beheaded this
person. There were three people involved
in the crime. One person did all of the violent acts, one assisted in the
planning and luring the person to the garage, and the other stood watch. Their first attempt failed because the victim
could not come over, so they calmly rescheduled and did it the next day. The media called it a thrill kill. The teen who did actually carry out the
murder, said it was self defense, and that he was protecting his friend. This person could not explain the beheading,
and showed no remorse. The other two accomplices
turned on the murderer, and when asked by the judge, in front of the jury, why
they just stood there watching this horrible event, neither had an answer. This is just one example, of many, that occur
with regularity, in our society today.
