The discus that guys throw weighs about 2 kilograms or 4 pounds, 7 ounces.  The one that women throw weighs 2pounds 3 ounces, or 1 kilogram.  Kids start to train to throw the discus at about 11 or 12 years old and the one they throw weighs about 1kilogram.  I never can figure out how they start out facing away from the direction that they are going to throw the discus toward; then spin around one and a half times, and then release the discus, with all of their strength and still remain inside that little circle until the discus hits the ground.  Then they measure from the front edge of the circle you stand in, to wear the darn thing landed, and round that number down to the nearest centimeter or half inch.   Then you get to repeat the process at least two more times; and the best throw, is the one they use to give as your score.  I would have to go home after the first toss.
