There is an organization called Animal Friends Croatia, which has a membership of about 1,300 animal activists.  They want to stop the practice of some countries who, instead of encouraging sterilization of pets, use poison to rid there cities of unwanted stray animals.  It was this group, among many others, that boycotted the 2005, Olympic Games in Athens, because they know that Greece is one of the worst offenders of animal rights.  Luka Oman was president of AFC at that time.  They found out that over 50,000 dogs and cats had been poisoned in Greece, and he said that it was done in the years leading up to the Olympics because Athens did not want the world to know about the terrible problem they had with stray and unwanted animals.  You might want to check out there website to see what they are doing to promote the rights of all animals and you can join their organization online. http://www.prijatelji-zivotinja.hr/index.en.php
